Worth seeing places - Plan de Corones

Brunico - S. Vigilio - Valdaora - S. Lorenzo

Museum

The museum was refunded in 1990 and reopened in 1995 in the former stables of the post office. The Civic Museum in Brunico had been first founded in 1912. During the fascistic period the museum was closed and most of the objects were brought to Bolzano . The new museum is part of the artistic collection of the old Civic Museum , including sculptures and paintings of Michael and Friedrich Pacher. Also, the collection of modern graphics of local modern artists is also of great value for the museum. The museum has dedicated one section to the 'graphic and literature' of many modern writers and artists.

Worth seeing places in Plan de Corones:

NATURAL PARK OF FANES
All August long expert guides make you discover the animal world in the Natural Park of Fanes-Sennes-Braies . The itinerary goes from the Capanna Alpina (Alpine Hut) to the Malga Fanes and from here to the grotto, where in 1987 some cave bear skeletons were found; it was a species that had a predilection for a vegetarian alimentation, and which became extinct 11,000 years ago.

Parish Church in Gais
This church has a long history and is nowadays regarded as being one of the oldest and most interesting alpine churches in the whole of Tyrol .

Parish Church of Villa Ottone
This was originally a roman church. It was later on Gothicised and in the churches interior a precious altar of the so-called "Maestro di Villa Ottone" was found. The real name of the artist is not known, but he was however, one of the main masters of the late Gothic period and it is also believed, that he could have been the teacher of the famous Michael Pacher.

Chapel of Castel Neuhaus
At the beginning of the 17th Century this was a preferred place for pilgrimage. In 1999, thanks to the Hofer Family, the Chapel was completely restored.

Castello di Chela Castle
The 30th of April 1944 was a black day for the Castle. It went on fire and the flames could be seen from far away and still no one knows what started the fire off. The castle has never been restored since and unfortunately it is now a ruin.

Remains of the Castellotto in Villa Ottone
The Castellotto is located on a big rock that inclines on both sides. At the top you see the start of the ring-wall and further down, the building and the chapel can be found.
