Worth seeing places - Sesto

Sesto - Moso

Museum

This museum in Sexten (Sesto) was opened in 1969. Its two exhibition halls contain primarily sketches and drafts for numerous frescoes, as well as studies, water colours, and graphic works by the famed South Tyrolean artist Rudolf Stolz (1874-1960). Among his main works are the 'Dance of the Dead' in the Sexten cemetery and several frescoes in its arcade. To pay tribute to the artist's works, the community of Sexten built a museum on the main square designed by his son-in-law, the architect Erich Pattis. The artist's daughters have made 160 of his works available for the exhibition.

Worth seeing places in Sesto and Moso:

Innichen Monastery Museum
The house in the shadows of the venerable collegiate church of Innichen (San Candido) is one of the most ancient buildings of the Upper Puster (Pusteria) Valley. It houses the museum, archives, and library of the Innichen Monastery. The cathedral treasury, sacred art from the church, and the manuscript collection bear witness to the intellectual and spiritual activity of the most ancient monastery in Tyrol. The precious objects on display are primarily the work of local artists that were commissioned by the canons or by wealthy citizens of Innichen.

This is a place that seems to have been especially created for rest and relaxation. Surrender to the enchanting atmosphere of "Mahler Country". Recommended for lovers of peace and quiet.
Gustav Mahler's house and his room can be visited every Tuesday and Saturday, from 11 to 12, from 1st July until September.

In Tourist Museum Alta Val Pusteria "Haus Wassermann" in Villabassa You will meet with a veil of monarchy and nostalgia. In the space just restored and renewed the "Ornamenti e necessitá" exhibition, on the theme of the ornaments and necessities of life, is waiting for you with all its memories and feelings.

Along the paths you can admire old hut, little chapels and alpine churches and, among these, two are certainly worth a mention. They are the Church of the Redemptor in Ferrara/Schmieden, built in 1735 upon the ruins of a previous chapel dated 1690 and famous for the ancient frescoes found during a restoration in 1981, and the Parish Church of St.Vito , first consecrated in 1355 and well known for its wonderful vault and the neo-gothic altar.
