This small village lies at 1,556 m between Canazei and the Fedaia Pass – Marmolada. Penia is located on the famous Via Alpina route, a cross-border hiking trail that crosses the entire Alpine region from Trieste to Monaco, making it a popular destination for hikers.
The ‘La Sia’ branch of the Ladin Museum in Penia is well worth a visit as it houses the last Venetian hydraulic sawmill. The nearby Val di Contrin is also highly recommended for its huts in which traditional cheese making is still in progress today using skills handed down through generations.
