Monguelfo – Tesido – Prati – Planca di Sotto – Planca di Sopra – Colle – San Martino di Casies – Santa Maddalena di Casies
Valle di Casies is a side valley of the South Tyrolean Val Pusteria, picturesquely nestled between the foothills of the Vedrette di Ries range and the Deferegg Alps. The 20 km long valley branches off at Monguelfo - Tesido to the north where a well-developed road leads through the wide and sunny valley, past the villages of Colle and San Martino, to Santa Maddalena. The municipality also includes several small village settlements and scattered hamlets, the larger of which are Colle di Fuori, Colle di Dentro, Planca di Sotto and Planca di Sopra. The slopes on both sides of the broad valley floor are covered with dense fir and spruce forests.
Above all, Valle di Casies offers rest and relaxation, plenty of nature, excellent air quality and an intact cultural landscape shaped by the hands of its hardworking farmers. The valley, which has remained rural, displays a breathtaking natural landscape throughout the year, which is wonderful for hiking, cross-country skiing and exploring. Idyllic alpine meadows, scattered hamlets, rolling hills and surrounding peaks will inspire nature lovers, hikers and those searching for tranquillity. Countless hiking and bike trails span green meadows and forests on cultivated pastures, where outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a fantastic view of Valle di Casies and the adjacent Alps. A small insider tip: No holiday in Valle di Casies is complete without a hike across Tesido’s alpine pastures.
Every year in September, at the end of the summer, the traditional Valle di Casies “Almhüttenfest” (alpine pasture festival) takes place. Guests will find plenty of music for dancing, culinary delights and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
